The Phillies Collapse In The 8th And 9th: Priceless

6 Sep

Score 8-2 8th inning, 0 outs

  • T. Gordon relieved G. Geary

We go from ‘oh shit’ to ‘oh no’

  • C. Jones doubled to deep right -
  • M. Teixeira flied out to right

Ok, ok, ok, the double is bad, but Gordon got Teixeira to fly out to Roberson, who is thought of as a sturdy right fielder.

8-2 1 out

  •   B. McCann singled to right center, C. Jones to third

Argh, it got through but let’s keep these guys from scoring.  Give up a run if you must Mr. Gordon.

- J. Francoeur singled to right, C. Jones scored, B. McCann to second
- S. Thorman hit for J. Ascanio
- C. Woodward ran for B. McCann
- S. Thorman singled to left, C. Woodward to third, J. Francoeur to second
- C. Ruiz catching
- B. Myers relieved T. Gordon

You bastard.  OK Myers, shut ‘em down!

- C. Woodward scored, J. Francoeur to third, S. Thorman to second on wild pitch
- Y. Escobar walked
- M. Diaz singled to shortstop, J. Francoeur scored, S. Thorman to third, Y. Escobar to second
- W. Harris walked, S. Thorman scored, Y. Escobar to third, M. Diaz to second
- K. Johnson fouled out to third
- C. Jones flied out to left center

Son of a…what the…you…Braves dink and dunk their way to 4 runs.  No problem guys, Myers wasn’t hit hard, I’m sure he’ll shut ‘em down in the 9th!

bottom of the 9th 8-6

– M. Teixeira struck out swinging
B. Pena hit for C. Miller
– B. Pena grounded out to first

Ha, Braves, better get your playoff tickets because the only way you’re going is if you buy your way in!

J. Francoeur singled to shortstop
– J. Francoeur to second on fielder’s indifference
– M. Prado singled to pitcher, J. Francoeur to third
– Y. Escobar walked, M. Prado to second

Huh?  Single to SHORTSHOP?  SINGLE T O PITCHER?  YOU SONS OF BITCHES STOP THIS

– M. Diaz doubled to deep right, J. Francoeur, M. Prado and Y. Escobar scored

Chris Roberson you terrific, terrific fielder.  Myers you stud reliever.  Phillies, I love you.

Braves 9-8 Final

This game was the epitome of what it is to be a Phillies fan.

We have the Joe Carter Game 6 of the 1993 World Series homerun.

    We have the 1964 collapse.

We have the Craig Biggio homerun off of Wagner.

    And now we have this.

Ah, well. It was fun while it lasted.

To the relivers’ credit, a lot of those hits were flukey bloops. The Braves hit three 7’s. They rubbed the rabbit’s foot. So it goes. =/
