World Champions!

31 10 2008

The Parade Starts At Noon At 20th And Market

30 10 2008

It will end at Citizens Bank Park, where the championship rally will occur.  The Phillies gave out free tickets to both CBP and Lincoln Financial Field, but perhaps more than a million people will be lining the streets to take part in the festivities.  It will be a must-go for anyone who calls themselves a Phillies fan.

How to act?  Mayor Nutter put it best:

“You can be joyous, you cannot be a jackass,” Nutter said today at a press conference to detail parade plans.

So how to get there?  Take SEPTA or PATCO.  Period.  Trying to drive into Center City or South Philly tomorrow would simply be a futile venture.  If you actually attempt it, don’t park on Broad Street, dumbass. Prepare for delays on trains, on the subway, everywhere.  Be patient.  Bask in the glory of the first championship in 25 years.  Hope for sunshine and enjoy the day! Go Phils!

Celebrate Like A Phillies Phan!

Here’s a real Phillies fan celebrating the only way he knows how…by wearing thong underwear outdoors through West Chester:

Forever 10:03 PM

30 10 2008

When Brad Lidge struck out Eric Hinske to end the inning, the game, and the World Series, I jumped up just like he did. There were high fives, hugs, kisses, beers being spilled and shouting by everyone. There was a tear or two from some of the more sentimental fans. When Brad Lidge finished off the game and cemented victory for the Philadelphia Phillies, I saw my first championship. It’d been 24 years and running without any sort of championship. Older fans had the 1980 Phillies and the 1983 Sixers, plus the Flyers a couple times. Villanova graduates had their magical season when they were all coked up and out of their minds. But I had nothing beyond an NFC championship win by the Eagles and an Elite Eight appearance by the Saint Joseph’s Hawks.

All that changed at 10:03 PM. My sports life is now whole. I can truly say I’ve seen this with my own eyes. I’ve experienced the highs and lows of 162 games, and the ecstasy of the postseason. It was terrific seeing guys like Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell get their first championship, and great to see Jamie Moyer finally get his day in the sun. This Phillies team has been incredibly likable all year, led by one of the best men in baseball. Charlie Manuel kept this team on an even-keel, knew how to get the players to play for him all season long, and kept his focus even as he lost his mother around the NLCS.

This championship is for Charlie…but it’s also for the fans. This is the greatest night of my sports fandom. I wish it was forever 10:03 PM.

World Series Game Five Resumes Wednesday at 8:37 PM

The World Series Is Officially Suspended Until Further Notice

A Dream Deferred: Game Five Of The Series Delayed At 2-2

27 10 2008

It’s almost like they waited for the Rays to tie up the score before they called it due to rain…they knew they were going to delay it, but were waiting for the right time. Right.

Ask yourselves this: If the Rays didn’t end up tying the game would the game have been delayed like so?

A Phillies Parade…

27 10 2008

All of you searching for a Phillies parade are really killing me! Wait one more game people!

World Series Game 4 Recap: Break Out The Cupcakes!

27 10 2008

Ryan Howard smacked two home runs, Jayson Werth hit a two-run bomb, and even Joe freakin’ Blanton hit a homer into the left field stands, all of which propelled the Philadelphia Phillies to an easy 10-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Jimmy Rollins also had a single and two doubles as the Phillies put on an offensive clinic.  Joe Blanton also pitched well in six innings, giving up two runs while striking out seven.  The terrific bullpen then shut down the Rays for the final three innings, with Chad Durbin being the only one to give up a hit.

Can you believe it?  One game away from winning the World Series. One game away from history. One game away from melting away 25 years of fan frustration in the city of Philadelphia. One game away from releasing good vibes throughout the city.  Just wish I had tickets.
