This blog was started with the intent in bringing a new viewpoint on Phillies baseball, Sixers basketball, and entertainment matters to the internet. Much of sports radio and television is filled with talking heads who character assasinate players and those in the sports world. I try to be somewhat insightful on matters close to Philadelphia and its sports teams.
The man behind the blog is me. Being a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in West Philadelphia and a Pennsylvania resident for all of my life, I have yet to see a professional championship with my own eyes, but hope to before I am six feet under.
Favorite teams in sports: Phillies, 76ers, Saint Joseph’s Hawks, Eagles, Flyers
Favorite players in sports: Bobby Abreu, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Allen Iverson, Andre Iguodala, Roger Federer
Favorite TV shows: Sopranos, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, LOST, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Daily Show

I saw that you replied on ivillage.com that their football blog was lame. I just started a women’s football blog, I am a diehard Philly sports fan (all 4 teams), but my blog is for all women not just philly fans. Curious what u think.

Hi! My name is Erin Chaves and I am contacting you to find out what advertising/sponsorship opportunities may exist on your blog. I am in the process of promoting the services of a prominent hair restoration doctor in Philadelphia. He has an excellent reputation and has performed more than 6,000 hair transplants.
I am reaching out to prominent local bloggers in order to promote and receive feedback on the client’s website. I am interested in the following opportunities, and am open to hearing your suggestions for other arrangements:
Review of the site and offerings, with a link, for a one-time fee (250 words or greater).
· Sponsoring a few of your posts (we pay a one-time fee for you to mention, with a link, in a few posts that the doctor sponsored them).
· Mini-banner or sidebar links paid 6 months up-front.
Please let me know your thoughts on how this could work for you. If you have pricing in mind already, definitely let me know. I am eager to have a chance to catch the interest of your audience and support a great blog.
Please contact me at erin.chaves[@]gmail.com. Thanks!
Thanks Nick, it helps when you’re a web developer by trade
Great site, let me know if you would be interested in advertising. Thanks
Hey,
I like your blog a lot. I was wondering if you might want to link to my site in your pop culture section. The site is http://trashwire.com. While we don’t write that much about sports, we do make fun of pop culture all the time. I just thought you might be interested.

Dear News.com,
i’m writing to tell you about a campaign I’ve started against the Philadelphia Duck Boats! I thought you might be interested in it.
As you know, the Philadelphia duck boats blast loud and obnoxious music and have a tour guide shout over a PA system and they persistently quack at native Philadelphians. I’ve begun a campaign against the duck boats called ‘Shut the Duck UP!”. I regularly protest in the city which I write about in my blog found at http://www.shuttheduckup.blogspot.com. We’ve started a quickly growing online petition and we plan a big protest in November. We’ve already been featured in several notable blogs such as Slog, Philadelphia WillDo, and Phillyist. Check out the blog and see how newsworthy this movement really is! Thank you and keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Walt Sherman
Sorry, didn’t mean to say News.com! I mean I’ve made a huge tiny mistake. Sending a lot of e-mails makes me tired!
Sincerely,
Walt Sherman

Chris,
I love what you’re doing. I’m from West Chester and just started a basketball web site that I would love to check out (and possibly link to) called NaismithLives.com. We’re gonna have some Sixers-related stuff up this week so please give us a look.
Continued success with your blog…
Thank you.
Dear Chris,
I know that I’ve been in contact before about the Shut the Duck UP! campaign and I just wanted to direct your attention to the Shut the Duck UP! Campaign Documentary Video that was recently made by a couple of Drexel Students! I thought you might want to post it to your site! Let me know what you think!
THANK YOU,
Walt Sherman

I too have started a blog about Philly. A picture blog about the greatest city in the world.
http://www.wheninphilly.com
I have linked to this great site…one of my favorites.
My brother-in-law was killed 2 weeks ago outside Philly. I don’t care he was a drunk and an asshole!!
Very rarely in my 50 years of following the Phillies has it been as satisfying as the last few days. Our guys proved that last season was not the aberration that the Mets claimed. Yes fans, the Phillies ARE the team to beat. Let’s get to the big show this year — the World Series!
As for the Mets — The NL East Chumps — shed the overpriced underachievers!
Now we’re gonna stew some Brew! Go Phillies!
Hi,
I visited your sports blog I’ve Made a Huge Tiny Mistake at http://hugetinymistake.wordpress.com/. You have really great articles and I’m glad I found your site.
I would like to know if you’re accepting guest blog posts, I’d like to send you an original blog entry on basketball which I think would fit nicely with your site. I’m doing this for free but would only require 1 backlink in the article to my site.
Please let me know if you’re interested in publishing this basketball blog entry so I can send it to you for publication soon.
Thank you

Hi, I really like hugetinymistake and I thought you might be interested in a project I’m working on, http://www.alstradeup.com.
It’s a website I made to help me get invited by the Phillies to throw out the first pitch at a home game in 2009. Because I am not famous, or well connected, or not really even that great at throwing, I thought the best way to get their attention would be to raise a ton of money for their favorite charity, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
So on my website I’m playing a version of the kids’ swapping game “Bigger and Better.” I started out with a crappy thing (2007 Charlie Manuel baseball card), and I’m trying to trade up for bigger and better things. When I make a trade I turn around and do it again, rinse, repeat, and soon I’m trading valuable interesting things like Einstein’s brain or 50 lbs of silly putty or a Gulfstream jet. (Those are examples only. I have not got offers to trade those things yet.)
Then, around early July 2009 (the anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech at Yankee Stadium) I will take whatever item I have at that point, and auction it off, with 100% of the proceeds going to ALS, and hopefully encouraging the Phillies to hand me the ball. Mission accomplished.
Let me know if you’re interested in this project, drop an email if you have questions — thanks!
Chris,
I recently created a sports comedy website that I thought you might be interested in. Entitled the Global Sports Fraternity, http://www.globalsportsfraternity.com, we show the humorous side of the world of sports through the eyes of original characters – the members of the Fraternity’s “Class of ’08″ – and give the audience glimpses into their everyday lives through regularly updated video content and blogs. Essentially we don’t believe that there’s enough satirizing of the sports world happening…
Particularly, I thought you would enjoy our character of Dr. Gerard Leavenworth, a football obsessed gynecologist from Philadelphia whose love for his hometown Eagles borders on the inappropriate. You can check out his newest video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBpFWqnt27Q and all of his videos here http://www.globalsportsfraternity.com/doctor. With the big Eagles/Giants game coming up this weekend, he is understandably a little on edge.
We’re simply interested in getting some exposure for our video content and I would love to discuss with you any opportunity that might exist to weave our GSF content in with your site. I’ve often read Huge Tiny Mistake (btw, love the name) and think that we might be a good fit for each other.
Let me know what you think.
Kurt
I am yet another site interested in advertising on your site. Our site is a secondary ticket broker and we are in search of opportunities to place text links with three to five natural links. If you are interested please contact at the email address listed in the reply.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this inquiry.
Brian
To everyone: I have decided to make a cheap plugs page. Anyone seeking to be added to it (separate from the links page) can inquire below.
Hey Chris,
Your site is amazing!! I can’t believe how awesome it is. You seem to have many followers and people that like your site to thats pretty sweet. too bad they don’t know you. Just Kidding. Keep up the awesome work.
Your awesome and amazing sister!!!
We’ve got to something about Chris Wheeler. Wheels has gotten so much worse. For years I wondered why HK hated him, now I know: he had to listen to this goofball say “No Doubles Defense” just about every day for seven months for umpteen years. Chris is the worst. He has no problem complaining about a Phillie player (“Jimmy swung at a bad pitch, and he knows it”) but have you ever heard him say something negative about anyone else associated with the team? (“Charlie let Blanton stay in the game one inning too long, it was a mistake, and he knows it”) I think not. He makes me wish Sarge was on more, that’s how bad he is. But you know what is worse? I hear through the grapevine that it’s no coincidence that the players and the coaches even the batboy wear an HK on their game day shirts. But not our Wheels, not the broadcast team.
