You Can’t Win ‘Em All, Down 1-0

4 Oct

The Phillies lost 4-2 against the Rockie yseterday, as Cole Hamels got hit early and the Phils couldn’t get much started against Jeff Francis, Latroy Hawkins, Brian Fuentes and Manny Corpas.  4 hits and 4 walks were all that the Phillies could muster, with two of those hits being solo homers by Aaron Rowand and Pat Burrell.  Heck, 1 through 4 in the lineup went 0-15 with one walk!  The Rockies good defense flashed some nice leather and their pitching shut down the potent Phillies bats, as the Rockies took the series lead 1-0.

But hey, there’s always tomorrow.   At 3pm Kyle Kendrick will face Franklin Morales in the 2nd home game in a row for the Phightins.  Kendrick and his ground ball repertoire has been money since he was called up in June.  He’s definitely given up more homers at home (10 in 67 IP), but still sports a decent opponent’s batting average (.276).  What the Phils have to hope for is a blowout victory.  That way the bullpen can rest up for the rest of the series.  Franklin Morales was pretty good down the stretch for the Rockies, pitching fairly similarly to Kyle Kendrick minus the homers (only 2 in 39.1 IP).

Win or lose it’ll be grea to watch, but it’ll be a lot more fun if they win!
