Chase Utley Loves Being Hit By White Leathery Circles

15 Sep

Chase Utley was hit for the 26th time of the season in yesterday’s day-night doubleheader sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. Apparently this set a team record. He’s lengthened his major league lead over Jason Giambi and Carlos Quentin to 6. What’s his secret? Actually standing ON the plate helps. Yes, he places both feet right on home plate, allowing the pitcher no room to work. This has worked wonders for Utley’s on base percentage. The picture to the right is one of the rare instances where Utley used his bat to protect his body.

So congratulations go to Mr. Utley for the most sore spots on the small of the back in team history! Here’s an ice pack!
