Game 2 Recap: The Brett Myers Saga W/ Guest Star Shane Victorino

3 Oct

So the good Brett Myers showed up to yesterday’s Phillies/Brewers game, as he threw 7 quality innings and helped clinch a 5-2 win for the good guys. He gave up only two hits and three walks and contributed at the plate as well by having a 10 pitch at bat, a 9 pitch at bat and a single to right field. His opponent on the mound didn’t fare as well, as CC Sabathia didn’t even last four whole innings. Twice he loaded the bases with Phillies, and once he was punished with the first grand slam of Shane Victorino’s career. It was Victorino’s night, as he went 3-4 with said grand slam, two doubles and two stolen bases. It’s hard to accomplish more in one game.

A quick review of the offense shows that the 3,4,and 5 hole hitters went a collective 0 for 10 with three walks, and yet the team still scored 5 runs. This bodes well for the rest of this series…and dare I say the rest of the playoffs. With the Phillies now up two games to none it is looking more and more like a Phillies-centric October.
